1001 employs its savoir faire to provide dates of superior quality to its customers. It was our passion to help the Western World rediscover a Moroccan treasure, the Medjool Date, by enhancing its taste and appearance. We strive to constantly innovate to provide our customers in the U.S. with the 1001 nights experience through dates that were once historically only reserved for royalty, their friends, and family. We believe everyone should be entitled to this same royal treat.
We continue to curate flavors that meet our most refined customers’ tastes. We are proud to share this rich and exotic cultural food to give value to the authentic experience that Moroccan Medjool dates have to offer.
With more than 450 varieties of dates, the Moroccan oasis is full of fruits that meet the different tastes of food enthusiasts. It was at the end of the 19th century that the palm groves of the city of Errachidia, a date of exceptional quality was discovered; thus the saga of Medjool was born. The name Medjool means "unknown" in Arabic, given its mutation so that this extraordinary date remains mysterious. Its fleshy texture, melting traits, and weight is largely superior to all other date varieties, including its beautiful bronze color and its elongated shape. The Medjool is a noble fruit and a product of luxury that remains a pillar of Moroccan hospitality.
The Medjool date was brought over to the U.S. in 1927. It was introduced to California from Morocco in order to save the date palms from extinction. A rare disease was destroying Morocco’s Medjool crop and nine of eleven offshoots survived when planted in California. The U.S. has since adopted a romantic connection to Morocco’s Medjool dates as well as the Middle East where dates, in general, were first born.
